The Russian Foreign Ministry has urgently summoned the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Moscow, this was reported today by the Russian RIA Novosti news agency.
The Foreign Ministry said that the Netherlands should have intervened and prevented British intelligence from trying to recruit a Russian diplomat in The Hague
According to Dutch media reports on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Dutch ambassador to protest strongly against Britain's recent attempt to recruit the military attaché at the Russian embassy in The Hague. Moscow called on the Dutch authorities to prevent "countries that call the Netherlands its allies" from such "unfriendly" actions. And the Netherlands should also refrain from doing so: "The Dutch authorities and law enforcement agencies not only stop, but also participate in, such illegal actions."
The Russian authorities talked about the fact that the Netherlands was involved in the past in supporting such illegal acts, in contravention of international laws and norms.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow spoke of an attempt to recruit three Russian diplomats last April.
Such actions by the Dutch authorities have affected the diplomatic relations between the two countries, which are going from bad to worse.
