President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will receive NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Turkey on Friday 4 November to discuss the ratification of Finland and Sweden. A senior official told Agence France-Presse.
The source, who asked not to be identified, said that the NATO Secretary General is coming on November 4. He added that Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Christerson would be received in Turkey on November 8. Stoltenberg had said last week that he would travel to Turkey “soon.” ".
To date, 28 of the 30 member states of the alliance have ratified Sweden and Finland for membership. Only Hungary and Turkey have not given their final approval yet.
The Turkish president has threatened to block the Scandinavian countries' accession to NATO since mid-May. Ankara accuses Sweden and Finland of protecting fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), two groups that Ankara classifies as terrorists.
