Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced on Saturday that "the war continues", after his country succeeded Friday in recapturing the city of Kherson (south) from the Russian army.
During a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Cambodia, Kuleba stressed that Ukraine continues to struggle to liberate its territory.
The Ukrainian national anthem was played in Kherson after Russian forces withdrew Friday from the city. Kherson was the first city to fall at the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February.
"We win battles, but the war continues," Kuleba said. "I realize that everyone wants this war to end as quickly as possible, and we are the ones who want it more than anyone else," he added.
"As long as the war continues and we see Russia mobilize more recruits and bring more weapons to Ukraine, we will certainly continue to count on your continued support," he added.
In October, Australia promised Ukraine an additional 30 Bushmaster armored vehicles and assigned 70 Australian defense personnel to train Ukrainian soldiers in Britain.
Albanese said that "the continued targeting of Ukrainian civilians by Vladimir Putin's forces is reprehensible".
