The number of asylum applications in Belgium increased by 10 percent during last March. The total cost of the country is more than 700 million euros.

Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
Last March, a total of 2,644 asylum applications were registered in Belgium, which represents an increase of 10% compared to the previous month. Even more, the number reached 7,828 in the first quarter of this year. According to a statement issued by the right-wing Vlaams Belang party, Barbara Bass, leader of the Vlaams Belang parliamentary group, said: “To this day, this government refuses to do what the two countries did. other European countries already: effective measures to contain the flow."
According to the statement, a copy of which we received, the Commissioner-General for Refugees and Stateless Persons (CGRS) has published asylum figures for the month of March. This clearly indicates that the influx of asylum seekers continues at a high level.
On average, there are now more than 2,600 asylum applications per month this year. "Even before the actual 'migration season' begins, the trend can already be discerned," Bass says. "Even if the additional influx remains 'limited' to the average level of the past three months, we also run the risk of easily passing the 30,000 asylum application mark this year."
Last year, at least 36,871 people applied for asylum.
"This situation cannot be described as particularly surprising," MP Bass said in her response. To this day, this government refuses to do what other European countries have already done: take effective measures to contain the influx. Despite the ongoing asylum crisis, there are still not enough measures to reduce the influx of non-European wealth seekers and increase their flow from abroad.
The statement noted that the fact alone that - in addition to the historically high budget for asylum reception of 703 million euros - another 158 million euros have been allocated recently, shows, according to the leader of the parliamentary group of the Vlaams Belang party, that this same government knows very well that policy that has not changed, The flow will not decrease. "This is confirmed today by the first quarterly figures for 2023," Bass concludes.
