The new ambassadors of the European Union were announced by Josep Borrell, the supreme coordinator for European foreign policy, and they will work in different regions of the world, including 10 Arab countries, in addition to a number of regional and international organizations, including the African Union, UNICEF, the United Nations and others.
According to what was reported by the Belgian news agency on Friday, there are 3 of the new ambassadors from Belgium: Igor Dresmans (Cambodia), Denise Chaibi (Indonesia) and Sandra de Waile (Lebanon). In addition to these three, Borrell also announced the names of 40 other EU ambassadors around the world. The appointments are part of the Diplomacy 2023 campaign within the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Union's diplomatic service.
De Wail Sandra was nominated as the European Union's ambassador to Lebanon. She currently holds the position of Head of the Sanctions Section in the European External Action Administration (EEAS), and previously held the position of Deputy Head of the European Union Mission in Egypt and Head of the Political, Press and Media Departments in the European Union Missions to Thailand and Israel.
According to the official website of the European Union's Department of Foreign Affairs, Orlando Nicola was nominated as the European Union's ambassador to Libya. He is currently the Special Envoy for Libya of the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He previously served as Italian Ambassador to Kosovo.
Seller Thomas has been nominated as the European Union's ambassador to Iraq. He is currently the Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Pakistan. He also previously held the position of Deputy Head of the EEAS Department responsible for the Middle East, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the Middle East Peace Process. Pierre Christophe was nominated as EU Ambassador to Jordan. He is currently the Political Assistant to the EEAS Deputy Secretary General for Peace, Security and Defense Affairs. Previously he also worked in the EEAS division responsible for the Western Balkans, and as an advisory advisor on North African and Middle Eastern affairs at the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York.
KOISTINEN Anne has been nominated as the EU Ambassador to Kuwait. She is currently the Vice President of the EEAS Integrated Implementation and Methodology Department. Previously, she also held the position of Head of Sector in the EEAS Department responsible for the recruitment policy of missions. Ms. Koestinen also served as Head of the Political, Press and Media Section at the Delegation of the European Union to Egypt and at the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations in Geneva.
Ferno Christophe has been nominated as ambassador of the European Union to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman. He is currently the Special Envoy of the Minister responsible for separatist issues in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also held the position of Director General for the Middle East and North Africa Region at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also previously served as Ambassador of France to South Africa and Lesotho.
Karen Johansson was appointed EU Ambassador to Somalia. She is currently the Vice President of EEAS Horn of Africa, East Africa Division. Previously, she worked as a Policy Officer for Somalia in the same department and also served in the European Union Delegation to Egypt.
Stutzmann Alexander has been nominated as Head of the European Union Representative Office in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, UNRWA. He is currently on loan to the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York as Special Adviser to the President of the United Nations General Assembly. He was previously Director of the Parliamentary Committees - Foreign Policy in the European Parliament.
Berger Lucy was nominated as the ambassador of the European Union to the United Arab Emirates. She is currently working as a Policy Coordinator in the Multilateral Affairs Unit of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action. Previously, she served as Head of the Trade and Economic Cooperation Section in the European Union Delegations to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman.
NELIUPŠIENĖ Jovita was nominated as the Ambassador of the European Union to the United States of America. She is currently the Deputy Minister for European Union Affairs in the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously, she served as Deputy Minister in the Lithuanian Ministry of Economy and Innovations and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to the European Union.
Xu An was nominated as Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt. She is currently working as a Counselor at the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York. She also held the position of Deputy Chief of Mission at the Danish Embassy in Morocco.
