A "cold" European statement on the results of the presidential elections in Turkey... awaiting a final report of the monitoring mission

Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
A joint statement was issued in Brussels late Sunday evening by Josep Borrell, Coordinator of Foreign Policy, and Olivier Varheli, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Affairs. The statement came as a European response to the second round of the presidential elections in Turkey that took place on Sunday.
At the beginning of the statement, the European Union did not directly congratulate the Turkish president, but began to welcome the holding of the second round of the presidential elections in Turkey on Sunday, May 28, with a high participation rate by the Turkish people who exercise their democratic right to vote. Immediately after that, the unified European bloc noted that it was looking forward to the final results and recommendations of the international election observation mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe / Council of Europe. After that, the European statement mentioned congratulating the winner, and the statement said, "We congratulate President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election.
In a routine formulation, the European statement said, "The European Union has a strategic interest in continuing a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship with Turkey and all its members, as well as in a stable and secure environment in the eastern Mediterranean. As if the European Union wanted to confirm that Erdogan's practices in the eastern Mediterranean off the coasts of Cyprus and Greece It was and still is a sticking point in the relations. The statement also deliberately ignored the mention of the Turkish leadership anywhere else in the statement. It was not too late for the one who drafted the statement to mention the issues of concern to the Europeans from Ankara, foremost of which is the human rights file.
The European Union is ready to engage with Turkey in order to move forward towards a constructive relationship for our common prosperity and stability based on commitments to human rights, the rule of law, international law and regional stability, for the benefit of all our citizens.

In an attempt to mitigate the coldness of the statement, European spokesman Luis Bueno published Monday morning a tweet in which he noted the congratulations on the victory sent to Erdogan by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU Council President Charles Michel and European Coordinator Borrell.
