The European Union will host the 7th Brussels Conference on "Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region" on Wednesday and Thursday
The Brussels conferences aim to achieve the dual objective of mobilizing humanitarian and financial aid for the Syrian people - those living in Syria as well as in neighboring countries - and for host communities in the wider region, while mobilizing the international community in support of a comprehensive and credible political solution to the Syrian conflict, in line with the Resolution Security Council 2254 (2015).
The activities were launched yesterday, Wednesday, through workshops in which representatives of international and regional organizations active in the field of providing humanitarian aid and others participated. The ministerial meeting of the conference was held today, June 15, in the European Council building in Brussels. The opening speech of the European and Foreign Policy Coordinator, Josep Borrell, will be followed by statements from the countries that host the largest A number of Syrian refugees in the region. The foreign ministers will then hold a political debate on multiple aspects of the Syrian crisis and funding pledges will be announced. At 5 p.m. the same day, the total amount of pledges from the international community to the Syrian people and host communities during this cycle will be announced
