The European Union: The desecration of the Qur’an is an assault, disrespect and provocation. We will continue to defend freedom of expression, but not everything that is legal is moral.

Brussels: Europe and the Arabs

In the wake of recent actions by individuals in Europe that have offended many Muslims, the European Union has reiterated its strong and firm rejection of any form of incitement to religious hatred and intolerance. Respect for diversity is a core value of the European Union. This includes respect for other religious communities.
This was stated in a statement issued today, Wednesday, by the office of European Foreign Policy Coordinator Josep Borrell in Brussels. The statement also stated, "The desecration of the Qur'an, or any other book considered sacred, is an assault, a lack of respect, and a clear provocation. There is no place for expressions of racism, xenophobia, and what Related to this of intolerance in the European Union.
We will continue to defend freedom of religion or belief and freedom of expression, abroad and at home; but not everything that is legal is moral.
Now is the time to stand together for mutual understanding and respect. These acts of individual agitators only benefit those who want to divide us and our societies.
