European Union: The recent events in Libya indicate the fragility of the security situation and the need to hold elections for a sustainable political solution

The European Union is following with great interest and concern the recent violence in Libya. According to a statement issued by Josep Borrell, the European Union's Foreign Policy Coordinator in Brussels, the statement also stated, "While the clashes in Tripoli appear to have subsided, the European Union urges all parties to continue to refrain stop armed hostilities and engage in dialogue in order to calm the situation and restore calm.
The EU also calls on all parties involved in the violence to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law and to ensure the protection of civilians.
Libyans are tired of being caught in the crossfire and they deserve to have their aspirations for peace finally heard and fulfilled.
Recent events are a vivid reminder of the fragility of the security situation in Libya and the urgent need to hold elections in order to find a sustainable and inclusive political solution.
The European Union reiterates its unwavering support for the mediation efforts led by the United Nations and its representative on the ground, Abdoulaye Bathily.
