Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
European Union Foreign and Security Policy Coordinator Josep Borrell will chair the meetings that begin Monday in Brussels for the foreign and defense ministers of member states. According to a European statement, European Union foreign ministers will discuss on Monday the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the latest developments related to Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Council will then exchange views on the situation in Israel and the region, and the foreign policy dimension of economic security. Hours before the meeting began, Foreign Policy Coordinator Josep Borrell said, “As the European Union and its 27 member states, we are deeply concerned about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”
We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the establishment of humanitarian corridors, so that humanitarian aid can safely reach the people of Gaza.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, European Union defense ministers will hold a discussion on EU support for Ukraine.
In light of the current circumstances, the Council will exchange views on rapid deployment capability and will be informed about ongoing CSDP commitments. The Council meeting will be preceded by an informal breakfast with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the European Defense Agency Steering Board.
