Official investigating authorities in Belgium are continuing security investigations to identify the perpetrators and prepare reports about several stores in the Veldstraat area in the city of Ghent being vandalized with red paint and anti-war messages on Gaza during the night from Friday to Saturday.
"Seven shops and buildings were defaced," said Bart de Kocker, spokesman for the Ghent police in the Flemish part of the country. “We have asked the city of Ghent to remove the graffiti.”
Activists raised slogans such as "Don't shop while the bombs are falling" and said that the targeted stores were selling products that would finance the war in Gaza. According to what the latest newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws reported, it also reported that the Antifa Ghent working group distributed a statement in this regard, which said: “The genocide is financed by many international chains and stores that sell brands for the benefit of Israel, such as Nespresso, Snipes, Tommy Hilfiger, Fnac.” , Zara, H&M, JD Sports, Eno, Foot Locker, Cruydvat. They directly or indirectly benefit from the war,” the group said.
“To the Belgian state, like South Africa, we ask them to be brave and hold Israel accountable before the international court. To the brands and stores, we ask you to stop sponsoring the death of Palestinians.”
The Public Prosecution opened an investigation to determine the identity of the perpetrators. The local police are investigating those who painted and wrote the slogans and are preparing reports on the extent of vandalism for each damaged property.
