Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
"We cannot allow Vladimir Putin to control Ukraine," said European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell. "Our security is at stake. We must at all costs prevent the emergence of a world in which might triumphs over right." This came in a post on the X website on Tuesday, and this came after publishing another post in which he said, “We continue to put pressure on Russia. The member states of the European Union agreed to extend the sanctions package for another six months.” He also said, “We continue to stand by Ukraine against the unjust Russian aggression.” Justified and illegal.
In a third post, he said they had adopted sanctions against 4 other people and one entity for their role in political repression in Russia under the global human rights sanctions regime.

Yesterday, Monday, the European Council renewed for another 6 months its restrictive measures in light of the Russian Federation’s continued actions that lead to destabilizing the situation in Ukraine, until July 31, 2024.
These sanctions were first imposed in 2014 in response to Russia's actions that destabilized the situation in Ukraine, and have been significantly expanded since February 2022 in response to Russia's unprovoked and unlawful military aggression against Ukraine.
It currently consists of a wide range of sectoral measures, including restrictions on trade, finance, technology, dual-use goods, industry, transport and luxury goods. It also covers: a ban on the import or transport of seaborne crude oil and some petroleum products from Russia to the EU, the de-conversion of several Russian banks, the suspension of broadcasting activities and the licensing of several Kremlin-backed disinformation outlets. In addition, specific measures have been introduced to strengthen the EU's ability to counter sanctions circumvention.
As long as the illegal actions of the Russian Federation continue to violate the ban on the use of force, which is a serious violation of obligations under international law, it is appropriate to maintain all measures imposed by the European Union in force and take additional measures. Measures, if necessary.
