On the 9th of May, the European Union will celebrate Europe Day 2023, a moment to celebrate the Schumann Declaration of May 9, 1950. According to a statement issued in Brussels, to mark this special occasion, the institutions of the European Union, including EU missions and representations around the world, will organize A wide range of activities both online and offline, giving citizens the opportunity to discover and learn more about the European Union.
Europe Day this May will bring together citizens to learn more about how the European Union supports peace, security and democracy through its resolve in the face of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and other conflicts around the world.
Europe Day 2023 will also enable visitors to get better acquainted with the EU's efforts to build a Europe that is green, digital, competitive, just and skilled, as well as strong, resilient and safe.
This year, it will also put a special spotlight on the European Year of Skills 2023, which kicks off on May 9.
On and after Europe Day, the EU Institutions will host a wide range of interactive activities at their sites across the 27 EU Member States and around the world.
EU citizens will be able to get acquainted with the EU institutions in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg:
Saturday, May 6: In Brussels, citizens will be able to visit the institutions of the European Union. On Tuesday, May 9: citizens will be able to visit the European Court of Justice and the European Village in Luxembourg City, and on Saturday, May 13: the public will be able to tour the European Parliament in Strasbourg and see the headquarters of The largest democratic body in Europe.
On May 9, the European Union will also host the European Year of Skills Festival. The festival will be linked to many other activities that put skills at center stage in different parts of Europe. The EU Institutions, together with their partners and networks across the 27 EU Member States and around the world, will celebrate Europe Day through a range of interactive, educational and entertaining activities.
European Commission representatives, in close collaboration with the Liaison Offices of the European Parliament, European Direct Centers and other national and regional partners, plan various actions to celebrate the day such as educational and leisure activities, quizzes, festivals, sporting activities, cultural events and debates but also visibility activities and social media campaigns.
In addition, EU delegations will celebrate Europe Day around the world and highlight European unity and solidarity.
