Military talks between Algeria and Britain to strengthen relations

The Algerian Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant-General Said Chanegriha, discussed with the Minister of State in charge of the British Armed Forces, Stephen Heppy, the state of military cooperation between the armies of the two countries and ways to strengthen it further in the future.

This came during the reception of the Algerian Army Chief of Staff, on Sunday, at the Army Staff headquarters in the capital, to the British Minister of State, who is on an official visit to Algeria at the head of an important military delegation.

The Algerian Ministry of Defense stated, in a statement, that the two sides discussed security challenges known to the world in general and the African continent in particular, and exchanged views on various issues of common concern.

According to the statement, Lieutenant General Shangriha explained that this visit comes a few days after the visit of the British Supreme Defense Adviser to the Middle East and North Africa, Martin Elliott Sampson, which enabled the two parties to address topical issues and areas of common interest.

He added that this kind of activities and meetings represent favorable opportunities to elevate the strategic dialogue between Algeria and Britain to meet the aspirations of the two institutions.

He also referred to the full readiness of the Algerian army's supreme command and its firm will to make the necessary efforts to embody a cooperation dynamic that benefits both armies, and is based on a frank exchange and an objective and realistic vision.

The Algerian Army Chief of Staff noted that with regard to bilateral military cooperation, the higher authorities of the two countries are keen to strengthen it more and more, especially by focusing on areas of common interest, such as the exchange of experiences in the framework of combating terrorism and in the field of training.

The Algerian Ministry of Defense statement added that the meeting also constituted an opportunity for the two parties to exchange analyzes on many regional and international issues, as the British official expressed his country's readiness to develop more bilateral military cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
