Military sources reported that the Belgian Ministry of Defense will change six military attachés this summer. To hold diplomatic positions in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The Ministry of Defense has a total of 20 military attaches around the world, as well as two military advisers to the Belgian ambassadors to the United Nations in New York and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna. They are based in the Belgian embassies and are usually accredited in many countries. They are generally appointed for a period of three years.
The military attache has diplomatic status, but reports hierarchically to the chief of defence, Admiral Michel Hoffmann, with the General Intelligence and Security Service as a middle level. The attache is the "military advisor" to the ambassador. According to the Belgian news agency in Brussels

In Europe, the Ministry of Defense is changing attitudes in Germany, Poland, Lithuania and the Netherlands. Colonel Jan Menhoudt will be the new military attaché in Berlin. He takes over from Colonel and Air Officer Pierre-Jean Pera, who has been stationed in the German capital since 2020 and now holds the same position in Warsaw, succeeding Colonel Guy Hanol. It will also be adopted in Lithuania, where Belgian forces regularly reinforce NATO's eastern flank.
And Colonel Joe Helens, a flying officer who served in the governments of previous Belgian defense ministers, will succeed Colonel Geert Lehmann in the Netherlands.
And in Africa, Colonel Michel Ricoeur was appointed defense attaché in Bujumbura, replacing Lieutenant Colonel Xavier Salmon in the Burundian capital. And in the capital of South Africa, Pretoria, Colonel Janick Debrabandir was recently appointed military attache. Lieutenant Colonel Tom Bolsius will take over the duties of Colonel Christian Vanhoef in Jordan.
