Israeli media reported, citing American officials, that stopping the war in the Gaza Strip and releasing detainees are two basic conditions for reaching an agreement on the Israeli-Lebanese border. This came according to what the Cairo News Channel reported shortly before its breaking news.
A number of Palestinian officials in the Gaza Strip called for opening the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing to provide for the needs of the population, especially in the northern Gaza Strip. He added that the situation in the northern Gaza Strip is tragic in light of the shortage of food and medicine. This came according to a breaking news report by the Cairo News Channel.
This comes after UNICEF spokesman James Elder said that the killing of children in Gaza and the destruction in the Strip will not bring peace to the children or the region, indicating that a ceasefire is the only solution. He explained that the disproportionate impact that this war has on boys and girls confirms the widespread belief that the war in Gaza “is a war on children.”
Speaking to UN News from Rafah, south of Gaza, Elder expressed deep concern about the fading hope of Gazans, especially young people, and urged the world to take action to end this human tragedy. He told painful stories about children who lost their families and homes, and are suffering from malnutrition and psychological trauma, stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire to save the lives of children and provide them with health care and education.
