The Algerian presidency announced that Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense, chaired a meeting of the Supreme Security Council yesterday, Sunday.
It is worth noting that the Algerian Supreme Security Council is an advisory body responsible for advising the Algerian President on all matters related to national security, according to the Algerian Constitution.
The Supreme Security Council meets upon the invitation of the President of the Republic according to specific cases, represented in a regular session, whenever necessary, to decide on any issue related to national security with an internal or external dimension, especially the army's contribution to the tasks of maintaining order, in addition to matters and issues related to the country's defense policy. According to what was reported by the Youm7 website in Cairo from the Middle East News Agency, the council's membership consists of the President of the Republic (Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense), the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Justice, in addition to the Director of the Presidential Office, the Director General of National Security, the Director General of Documents and External Security (Intelligence), the Director General of Internal Security, and the Commander of the National Gendarmerie (an armed force affiliated with the army, which carries out the duties of the judicial police, administrative police and military police).
Earlier, the Attorney General at the Tlemcen Court in Algeria announced today, Sunday, the dismantling of a spy network consisting of 6 people, including 3 Moroccans and 3 Algerians.
At a press conference held to reveal information about the dismantling of a spy network, Attorney General Jaloul Lahcen Ahmed said that the dismantling of the network came after the arrest of a Moroccan who entered Algerian territory illegally. The same official added that this network recruited Moroccan nationals and Algerian citizens with the aim of harming Algerian security and administrative institutions, and pointed out that members of this network were receiving instructions from the so-called "B.S.", a Moroccan national. Yesterday, Sunday, members of the spy network were brought before the Public Prosecution Office, according to the same source, and after interrogating the suspects, the Public Prosecutor ordered the opening of a judicial investigation against the members of the network, and against anyone revealed by the investigation. After interrogating the accused, the investigating judge also issued an order to place them in temporary detention.
