Brussels - Rabat: Agencies
The Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, agreed during their meeting yesterday, Tuesday, in Brussels, on a roadmap to revive relations between the Moroccan and European parliaments. According to media reports quoted by the Middle East News Agency in Cairo, El Alami said, in statements to the Maghreb Arab Press Agency, following his talks with Metsola, that "several topics were discussed and it was agreed to define a roadmap and a working methodology to restore cooperation between the Moroccan and European parliaments to their normal state, and to overcome all the imbalances that have marred these relations."
El Alami, who is visiting the European legislative institution at the invitation of the President of the European Parliament, confirmed the desire expressed by Metsola to restore relations to their normal state, following the recent European elections and the restructuring of the European Parliament.
He stressed the need to respect the "Moroccan conditions" that would ensure better relations between the two legislative institutions, within a framework of mutual respect. He added that Metsola highlighted the position that Morocco occupies in the European neighborhood, thanks to its political, economic and social stability, its many achievements in various fields, and its foreign policy.
