Riyadh - Damascus: Agencies
The Saudi Press Agency "SPA" said that the Syrian transitional president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, and his companions left Riyadh this morning, Monday, and were seen off by a royal and ministerial delegation.
Al-Sharaa stated before leaving Saudi Arabia that he held a meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, during which he "touched and heard a genuine desire to support Syria in building its future, and keenness to support the will of the Syrian people, and the unity and integrity of its territories."
Al-Sharaa added that he discussed with the Crown Prince a wide range of issues, during which they focused on how to cooperate in the humanitarian and economic fields in a broad manner. He pointed out that the plans included the fields of "energy, education and health." According to what was reported by the European news network in Brussels "Euronews"
For its part, the newspaper "Al-Riyadh" said that the discussion focused on combating terrorism and extremism and strengthening the state of security, peace and regional and international stability, in addition to rejecting foreign interference in Syria's affairs.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry published a statement in which it said that al-Sharaa and bin Salman discussed "the latest developments in Syria, and the means to support its security and stability."
Al-Sharaa arrived in Riyadh accompanied by his Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani yesterday, Sunday, and some understood his choice of Saudi Arabia as the first international destination he would visit as president as an attempt to reposition his country on the regional map and distance it from Iran as a strategic ally.
