A statement issued by the European Commission in Brussels welcomed the political agreement between the participating legislators on a common roadmap on the Common European Asylum System and the new Charter on Migration and Asylum. "This confirms the joint commitment to take all necessary steps towards the adoption of legislative proposals related to the management of asylum and migration before the end of the legislative period 2019-2024," the European statement said. The new compact provides the comprehensive approach needed to manage migration in an effective and humane manner. "It is important that we now have a clear way forward with a timetable for negotiations between participating lawmakers starting at the latest by the end of 2022 and concluding by February 2024," the statement added. In conclusion, the European statement stated, "The Commission will continue to provide its full support to the European Parliament, the current Czech Presidency of the Council and the upcoming Presidencies, in order to make progress in the negotiations
