Brussels: Europe and Arabs
Michel Hoffmann, the top man in the Belgian army, said he supports re-conscription. According to what he said in his statements to the Belgian French-speaking television station RTBF.
"The abolition of conscription in 1992 was the result of several factors," said Admiral Hoffman. "The fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Cold War, technological developments that made education more complex and longer, stimulating within society, but also budgetary considerations."
But according to Hoffmann, it is time to consider a reassessment, especially in light of the tense global geopolitical situation. Because we may have to defend the territory of NATO or the territory of Europe. This could justify the need to call on these people to take up arms. That would be logical. Compulsory military service also makes it possible to create a bond between the army and the nation, attaching to the defence.
At the conclusion of his statements, the Belgian captain was offended, is this technically possible? He replied, "Not tomorrow, but in the coming years. Although we will need budgets, equipment and men to train the recruits."
