The launch of the annual conference of European Union ambassadors on responding to global developments and challenges

The annual conference of EU ambassadors takes place between October 10-18 in full physical form again and two years after the pandemic.According to a statement issued in Brussels by the European External Action Office, the ambassadors’ conference is being held against the background of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its global consequences, and with the world recovering from the impact Socioeconomics of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss with EU directors and other high-level speakers on the EU's response to global developments and challenges.
The conference brings together EU ambassadors from the 145 EU delegates and offices worldwide, as well as the heads of EU military and civilian operations and heads of European Commission representations in all 27 EU member states. It provides an opportunity to review the reach of the European Union in the world and to discuss the main challenges and tasks for the coming months. The European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will open the conference with a public address on Monday. It will be presented by EEAS Secretary General Stefano Sannino. European Council President Charles Michel will speak to the ambassadors on the same day in the afternoon, along with European Parliament President Roberta Mezzola on Tuesday 11 October followed by the keynote address by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, on Wednesday 12 October
The Ambassadors Conference will also include exchanges with European Commission Executive Vice Presidents Frans Timmermans, Margrethe Vestager, Valdis Dombrovskis, and Plenipotentiaries Ylva Johansson, Jutta Orbelinen and Oliver Varheli. Other international institutions will be represented by NATO Deputy Secretary-General Mircea Giano, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina J. Mohammed, and Director-General of the International Organization for Migration Antonio Vitorino.
During the conference, the ambassadors will have the opportunity to exchange views with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, as well as with First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko and Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Srebryan. 2021 Nobel Prize-winning journalist Maria Ressa will also be among the key guest speakers. Other guest speakers will include the Secretaries-General of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the General Secretariat of the Council, as well as members of the European Parliament.
