The second dialogue on the EU-US joint technology competition policy strengthens international cooperation in this file

The second meeting of the Dialogue on EU-US Technology Competition Policy (‘TCPD’) took place in Brussels, where he met with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager, Chairman of the US Federal Trade Commission Lena Khan and Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust of the US Department of Justice Jonathan Kanter.
  According to a European statement issued by the European Commission following the meeting that took place last weekend, after the launch of the Technical Cooperation Program on December 7, 2021, the heads of European and American competition authorities met to assess the progress of their cooperation efforts to ensure and promote fair competition in the digital sector.
 The discussion addressed several issues and focused on: (1) The importance of forward-looking analysis in the field of technology to identify key future markets and issues that may arise in the digital sector
 (2) Adoption of effective treatments in digital cases
  (3) The need to keep integration regulations fit for purpose in the digital economy.
 The European Commission and the US authorities have confirmed good cooperation since the launch of the TCP on the common challenges faced by the three authorities in the technology sector.
Throughout the year, several technical meetings were held on various topics covering merger and antitrust issues.
The TCP will continue with high-level meetings, as well as regular discussions at the technical level.
 Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice President of the European Commission responsible for competition policy, said: “Through this meeting we have continued the long-standing tradition of close cooperation in competition policy and enforcement between the European Commission and US competition authorities. In the rapidly evolving technology sector, such cooperation is crucial to achieving digital transformation. just and inclusive on both sides of the Atlantic.”
