Enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Belgium in the fields of energy, climate, green transformation, water recycling, digitization and infrastructure

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Ambassador of Egypt to the Kingdom of Belgium and accredited to the European Union, met with Mr. Rudi Vervoort, Prime Minister of the Brussels Region. During the meeting, it was emphasized during the meeting the momentum witnessed by the relations between Egypt and Belgium in the current period on the political, economic and cultural levels. Especially with the important visit made by Queen "Mathilde", Queen of Belgium, and Princess Elizabeth, Crown Princess of Belgium, to Egypt in March 2023 to celebrate the centenary of the visit of Queen Elizabeth, the great-grandmother of the King of Belgium, to Egypt in March 1923 as the first woman to visit the tomb of King Tut Ankh. The Egyptian ambassador also discussed the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance further cooperation and maximize what already exists. By attracting more Belgian investments to Egypt as well as European ones, and taking advantage of the favorable opportunities for investment in Egypt in various vital fields such as clean and renewable energy, infrastructure, green transformation and digitization.
Ambassador Abdel-Aty also focused on the process of modernization and development that Egypt is witnessing at all levels, including the areas of infrastructure, smart mobility, and new smart and green cities. In addition to digital transformation and the promotion of the use of artificial intelligence applications to develop the main economic sectors, including agriculture, industry and water recycling, in light of the move to the new administrative capital and the construction of other green and smart cities, which was praised by the Prime Minister of the Brussels Region.
The Egyptian ambassador also reviewed Egypt's contributions during its presidency of the COP27 climate change conference in promoting international climate action; linking it to ways to avoid conflicts and achieve peace, especially in the African continent; and strengthening the climate response to sustain peace by increasing the resilience of African societies to climate change in order to establish peace, security and development.
