European Union: World peace in danger and tensions may turn into a global and international confrontation that can be weakened. Our interests are sometimes stronger than fulfillment of our values

Brussels: Europe and Arabs
The European Union Foreign Policy Coordinator Josep Borrell said that global peace faces a great danger, noting that many crises and tensions are currently witnessing the world and that a number of them can escalate and turn into a global confrontation
This came at the end of the activities of the second edition of the Shoman Forum for Security and Defense in Brussels, which was held on May 28-29, 2024.
He brought together senior decision -makers from more than 60 partner countries, European Union member states, and high -level representatives. From the European Union, international and regional organizations, as well as academic circles.
According to a European statement issued by the Borrel Office, the forum was aiming to shed light on how to respond to the partnerships of peace, security and continuous and continuous defense of the most urgent security threats and challenges and contribute to global peace and security, as well as support the international system based on rules and multiple parties. No country can act On its own, with facing challenges such as weakening pluralism, the return of power policy around the world, renewed emphasis on authoritarian regimes, and a mixture of traditional and hybrid threats we face.
At the conclusion of the forum, Borrell said, "It was important to be this meeting because world peace is in great danger.
I remember in my very long life many moments of other crisis. During the so -called "Cold War" - well, the war - cold is better than hot - because when it is heated, something is very bad.
We, the Europeans, are facing two brutal wars near our borders and a lot of tensions that we can easily deal , In the Gulf, in the South China Sea, in South Asia, [and] gangs and drug gangs in Latin America and Central America. You can choose. Unhappy, I cannot choose to deal with them all.
Some of these crises can escalate to a major global confrontation at a time when the world has become multiple poles, and the multilateral system is deeply affected by weakness.
Even institutions, which are the essence of the United Nations system, such as the International Court of Justice (ICJ), can be weakened.
If the provisions of the International Court of Justice are not obedient, the world will be in a more clear position. We will not call the International Court of Justice again the next time if its ruling is not implemented this time - and this is not. not.
I know geography is important. Wars near us are more important than remote wars. But they are all interconnected. Any war, any crisis anywhere that affects anywhere else in the world.
Public goods - from energy prices to freedom of navigation, are threatened to [everything] you were talking about.
So please, this meeting was necessary and important. This is the second step towards Europeans who participate with the rest of the world, and the rest of the world is involved with us.
You are not invited here to the lecture, or you are indoctrinated, or you are invited to continue thinking or our interests.
You have been invited to come here to exchange your fears, destinations, priorities and differences. I had a lot of dualism [meetings] during these markets, and many of them expressed the strength of your differences, your fears, and your criticism.
Well, I think it's part of my job. It is part of the European Work Service function and its people, who are trying to make Europe present in its role as a security provider.
I think this was successful because you came. We talked, we listened to each other, now returning home and will continue to work from one crisis to another.
Believe me, we want to be the power of peace in the world, with all our restrictions, knowing that our interests are sometimes stronger than fulfilling our values because we are political organizations. Everyone has their own interests.
But regardless of this, which is the human nature, we want to build alliances and we want to build partnerships to continue building a world in peace where political freedom, economic prosperity and coherent societies can be the future of humanity.
