Death toll rises in church fire in Egypt

Cairo: Reuters - Brussels: Europe and the Arabs The European media paid attention to the fire incident in the Abu Sefein Church in Giza Governorate, and according to the media in Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the European Union, on Sunday, the death toll rose to 41 people and 55 injured, according to official data issued by the Egyptian capital.

Earlier, two security sources told Reuters that a fire broke out in a church in Giza Governorate, near the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Sunday morning, killing and wounding dozens.

The two sources explained that the fire, which was sparked by a short circuit in the church's electricity generator, led to a stampede among the worshipers, who numbered more than five thousand. They added that the fire was blocking the exit from the prayer hall, which led to the charring of some bodies, and the two sources said that the majority of the dead were children. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said on his Facebook page that he is closely following the developments of the incident and that he has directed all relevant state agencies and institutions to take all necessary measures. The Ministry of Health stated in a statement that the injured were transferred to Imbaba General Hospital and Agouza Hospital, and that the Minister of Health, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, raised the state of readiness in the hospitals in Giza and Cairo governorates, in addition to providing all blood types and emergency medicines for the injured.
