On Friday evening, the sports media paid attention to the news reported by Agence France-Presse regarding the announcement of the withdrawal of the organization of the 2025 African Nations Cup from Guinea. The 2025 African Nations from Guinea, due to the lack of infrastructure in the country. Motsebe told reporters that CAF will reopen the door for submission of applications to host the continental competition in the 2025 edition. The Prime Minister and Minister of Sports Motsebe informed the Guinean authorities that the country would not be able to organize the 2025 African Nations Cup, due to the delay that would occur in the process of preparing the infrastructure.Although Domboya considered organizing the tournament a national priority, things did not go as planned. "For the 2025 African Nations Cup, the decision was not to continue with Guinea in the organization file because the infrastructure is not ready for the level of the tournament, despite the great efforts made by the authorities," Motsebe said at a press conference.
Here, things seem normal for some. Immediately, various sports programs broadcast what was mentioned in this news, including the “With Schubert” program, in which the Egyptian journalist Ahmed Schubert spoke about his expectations of a strong competition between Morocco and Algeria and perhaps Senegal and South Africa to host this event
But the strange thing is that this news was published nearly a month before it in the Tunisian newspaper, “Al-Maghrib,” which said on Sept. The Executive Office reopened the way for countries that wished to host the continental event and had previously expressed their desire to organize.
The official in the CAF media committee, Tano Diallo, published part of the correspondence received by the Guinea Football Association, which stated: “After the meeting of the Executive Office, it was unanimously decided to withdraw the organization of the African Cup of Guinea, due to the country’s lack of readiness to host a similar competition.”
Withdrawal of organization has become an African custom
It is not the first time that the Confederation of African Football has withdrawn the organization from a country, but Guinea is only the eighth country that finds itself outside the walls of organizing the African event in the last three decades for various reasons.
Before Guinea 2025, CAF withdrew the organization of the 2019 African Nations Cup from Cameroon due to the lack of infrastructure and assigned the organization to Egypt in a tournament that took place in the summer and crowned its Algerian title.
However, the starting step in the process of withdrawing the organization was in 1988, when Morocco had the honor of hosting the African Nations Cup for the first time in its history and the last so far, after “CAF” decided to withdraw the organization of the competition from Zambia.
South Africa is the largest beneficiary of the transfer of the African Nations Cup from one country to another, as it previously organized the competition on two occasions, after it replaced Kenya in 1996 and Libya in 2013.
In 2000, the tournament was organized equally between Ghana and Nigeria instead of Zimbabwe, and in 2015 Equatorial Guinea replaced Morocco, which apologized for hosting the 30th edition of the Ebola outbreak at the time.
In 2017, Gabon compensated Libya after the CAF decided to withdraw the hosting right from the latter due to the security situation in the country.
Algeria on the line
As soon as the possibility of withdrawing the organization of the African Cup of Nations from Guinea began to be discussed earlier, several countries expressed their readiness to organize the 2025 finals, and at the forefront of these countries we find Algeria as well as Guinea Bissau
