Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
Until 2025, the Cooperation Agreement between the European Commission and UEFA has been renewed in order to intensify joint efforts to use the influence of football to bring about positive change across Europe by renewing and strengthening their long-standing institutional partnership.
The renewal of the Commission-UEFA Cooperation Agreement, which was signed by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas in Brussels on 6 October, will take cooperation between the two organizations to a new level by focusing on critical EU priorities such as climate action and equality. For everyone and social inclusion.
"In UEFA, we have not forgotten the importance of sport, and especially football, in promoting equality and social inclusion," European spokesman Luis Miguel Bono said in a tweet on Saturday. "This week we signed an agreement with our friends at UEFA" to deepen our cooperation. The most important thing is always the spirit sports!”
The agreement was first signed in 2014, and provides a roadmap for cooperation until 2025. This builds on current efforts to capitalize on the great vision of UEFA events and competitions and the strength of member associations to reach all corners of the broad football community in Europe. For example, next month's UEFA-led agreement on the future of European football will bring together representatives of fans, players, clubs, leagues and the 55 member associations of the governing body, with the European Commission supported as the official observer of the process.
“This is a unique partnership,”
said European Commission Vice President Schinas, after signing the renewal. “We will continue to work within the existing structures and frameworks in full conformity with European goals in order to serve and unite society and citizens. European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Maria Gabriel added: “Sport, especially football, is an effective platform to reach our youth and all European citizens, and increase Awareness of our European values. UEFA is an important partner in advancing our initiatives in the field of sport related in particular to HealthyLifestyle4All, inclusion, mental health, equity and gender equality.”
Earlier this summer, football’s governing body committed to promoting European goals related to equality, diversity and inclusion through the UEFA EURO 2024 Men’s Championship in Germany and Women's EURO 2025 European football will also support the UEFA Conference on Equality in 2023 by inviting football stars to attend communicating key messages to fans and citizens across Europe The European Sporting Model
The renewed agreement also underlines the commitment of the European Union and the European Union Football protects the European sports model - the foundations on which most sports institutions, organizations and governing bodies in Europe are built. The model promotes solidarity across different levels of sport, ensuring that the revenue generated from professional competition is reinvested in the development of football at grassroots levels. It also recognizes the contribution of Football in promoting European values off the field, including justice and Integrity, sustainability, gender equality and good governance.
The Vice-President of the European Commission added that "Europe's basic principle is solidarity." "UEFA and the European Commission will ensure that UEFA competitions remain a success story embedded in our European model of sport
." Opposition to the "European Premier League"
By adopting the current hierarchical structure of European football, based on open competition, including promotion and relegation, the agreement also reinforces the opposition of UEFA and the European Commission to the so-called "European Premier League" proposal and the purely commercial entertainment model. This embodies the direction of EU sports policy contained in the recent historic decisions of the European Parliament and the Member States of the European Union (the Council of the European Union).
The UEFA President welcomed the agreement as a testament to the enduring strength of the partnership between the two European bodies, commenting: “Recent years have witnessed an intense period of cooperation between UEFA and our UEFA partners who have faced generational challenges to the European way of life and our European sporting model.
” As this agreement indicates, our partnership - built on decades of trust and open relationships - is stronger than ever and we have a roadmap to ambitiously develop into the future together for the benefit of all."
