Three members of the Iranian security forces, including an officer in the Revolutionary Guards with the rank of colonel, were killed in "riots" on Tuesday, in light of the protests taking place in the country against the background of the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, according to the official media on Wednesday.
Since September 16, Iran has been witnessing protests following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, three days after she was arrested by the morality police for not adhering to the strict rules of dress in the Islamic Republic.
Dozens of people, including members of the security forces, died on the sidelines of the protests, during which slogans were raised against the authorities, and officials considered a large part of them "riots." The judiciary charged more than 2,000 detainees in connection with the movements.
And on Tuesday, several Iranian cities witnessed movements to commemorate those killed during the bloody protests that took place in the country in November 2019, against the backdrop of a sudden government decision to raise fuel prices. And the official news agency "IRNA" reported that three "security defenders" were killed in different cities during the day yesterday.
It quoted a military source as saying that Colonel of the Revolutionary Guards, Reza Almassi, was killed "by unknown rioters in the Kurdish-majority city of Boukan" in West Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran.
She explained that Almasy died "after being hit by a pistol shot from a rioter."
In addition, another member of the guard, Reza Azarbar, who was "defending security", was killed by gunfire by "unknown persons" in the city of Kamyaran in the Kurdistan Province in the west of the Islamic Republic, according to "IRNA".
In the city of Shiraz (south), a member of the Basij forces affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard was killed "as a result of riots" on Tuesday evening, according to the same source.
The agency quoted the Public Prosecutor of Fars Governorate, Mustafa Bahraini, as saying that "during the riots, one of the seminary students from the Mobilization forces in Shiraz was taken to the hospital as a result of the rioters throwing a Molotov cocktail." He was hit in the head, and the efforts of the medical staff were unsuccessful. to save his life."
Since the protests began two months ago, Iranian state media has reported that more than 30 members of the security forces have been killed in "riot-related" incidents. In addition, at least six members of the Revolutionary Guards were killed in bloody incidents in the city of Zahedan, the center of Sistan-Baluchestan Province (southeast) on September 30.
