The President of Mauritania announces an increase in salaries and a 50% increase in the minimum wage.

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazwani announced an increase in salaries by an amount of twenty thousand (20,000) old ouguiyas, for the benefit of all civil and military employees and contractual agents of the state, starting from January 2023, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.
Al-Ghazwani indicated that this increase represents for 40% of the employees an increase of more than 20%. He also announced, during a speech marking the National Independence Day, a 50% increase in the minimum wage, and an increase in family benefits paid by the social security system by 66%.
In his speech, Al-Ghazwani promised to pay an additional incentive reward to teachers, professors, and supervision staff working in basic schools and secondary institutions throughout the academic year, amounting to ten thousand old ounces.
Ould Al-Ghazwani said in his speech that improving your living conditions, supporting your resilience, and enabling you to live a decent life is the central goal of all our efforts and all our public policies.
Weld Al-Ghazwani added: “We are fully aware of the extent to which you are affected by the negative repercussions of the various crises sweeping the world. And we have not and will not spare any effort to ease its impact on you, by taking all possible measures that would contribute to that.”
