EU consumption of natural gas decreased by 20.1% in the period from August to November 2022, compared to the average gas consumption for the same months (August-November) between 2017 and 2021.
The gas demand reduction measures, part of the REPowerEU plan to end the EU's dependence on Russian fossil fuels, set a cut target of 15% for the period from August 2022 to March 2023 compared to the average for the same period of the previous five years in a row. Years.

During the period from August to November 2022, natural gas consumption decreased in most member countries.
In 18 member states, consumption has fallen beyond the 15% target, in some by a large margin (above 40%). Consumption fell the most in Finland (-52.7%), Latvia (-43.2%) and Lithuania (-41.6%).

Six member states, while they have reduced their natural gas consumption, have not yet reached the 15% target. In contrast, natural gas consumption increased in Malta (+7.1%) and Slovakia (+2.6%).

This is according to information from energy data published by the European Union's statistical office (Eurostat) and sent by the national statistical institutes of member states.
