
The United Nations is holding a conference on combating climate change in Pakistan next week

United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, will participate next Sunday, January 8, in the international conference on Pakistan and combating climate change, which is organized by the United Nations in coordination with the government of Pakistan, with the aim of providing financial and international support to those affected by the devastating floods in Pakistan this year. According to the UN spokesperson, the Secretary-General will call for support to strengthen the resilience of communities in Pakistan going forward. While in Geneva, the Secretary-General is scheduled to hold a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif.
Earlier, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, warned of the consequences of the catastrophic floods in Pakistan, pointing out that they will remain for years to come. This came in a speech delivered by Guterres, before a session of the United Nations General Assembly. In solidarity with Pakistan in the aftermath of the catastrophic floods that hit the country.
The General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled "Solidarity and support for the Government and people of Pakistan and the promotion of emergency relief, rehabilitation, reconstruction and prevention in the aftermath of the devastating floods."
Guterres stressed that the huge needs require massive support, noting that the United Nations is working with the government of Pakistan to hold a pledging conference with the aim of providing tangible support for reform and reconstruction efforts.
