The UAE appoints Sultan Al Jaber as President of the Climate Conference "COP 28"

The UAE decided to assign Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE's Special Envoy for Climate Change, as appointed president of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28).

Shamma bint Suhail bin Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, was also assigned as a "climate pioneer for youth in the conference," and Razan Al Mubarak, President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, as a climate pioneer in the conference hosted by the UAE at Expo Dubai from November 30. Until December 12, 2023, according to the Emirates News Agency, WAM.

This came under the directives of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and a decision issued by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court.

This assignment comes as part of the preparations for the COP28 Conference of the Parties, which takes place at a very important stage, given the negative effects that the world suffers from due to climate change, the loss of biodiversity, and the challenges facing ensuring energy, food and water security, in addition to what is required by the goal of avoiding a rise in the planet’s temperature above the threshold. The 1.5 degree centigrade of a significant reduction in the level of carbon emissions, achieving a realistic, logical, practical, gradual and fair transition in the energy sector, and providing more support to emerging economies.
