International calls for accountability for those involved in human rights violations in Myanmar

The foreign ministers of the United States and the United Kingdom and High Representative Josep Borrell, on behalf of the European Union, along with ministers of 20 other countries, renewed their call on all members of the international community to support efforts to hold accountable those responsible for human rights violations and abuses in Myanmar.

In a joint statement, published by the US State Department on its website on the occasion of the second anniversary of the coup in Myanmar, today, Wednesday, the foreign ministers called on the international community to support efforts to stop the sale and transfer of weapons and equipment that facilitate the commission of atrocities in Myanmar and to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of its people, including the most vulnerable communities. weakness.

In the statement, the ministers reiterated their continued support for those working peacefully for an inclusive and democratic future for the people of Myanmar.

The joint statement stressed the need to stop the acts of violence perpetrated by the military regime and to create a space for meaningful and comprehensive dialogue to allow the resumption of any democratic process.

The foreign ministers, according to the statement, reiterated the call for Myanmar's return to the democratic path.

The twenty countries are Albania, Armenia, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, the Federated States of Micronesia, Georgia, Ghana, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, South Korea, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau, Serbia, Switzerland and Ukraine.
