
Egypt's ambassador in Brussels discussed cooperation in the field of energy and green transformation with the European Union Commissioner for Energy and the Belgian Minister of Energy

During an expanded meeting that included Mrs. Cadre Simson, the European Commissioner for Energy, and Ms. Tini van der Straten, the Belgian Minister of Energy, as well as a number of senior European Union officials and major Belgian companies working in the field of energy, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty; Egypt's ambassador to the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation with the European Union and Belgium in the field of conventional, renewable and clean energy, including green hydrogen production, as well as cooperation in the field of developing ports and protecting Egyptian coasts.
Mrs. Cadre Simson appreciated the existing cooperation with Egypt in the field of energy, which was reflected in the signing of two memorandums of understanding with Egypt in the field of renewable gas and hydrogen, which contribute to strengthening European energy security in the short and long term, especially in light of the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis on security European energy and the policies of the European Union to diversify its sources to obtain energy sources from partner countries, including Egypt.
Simson also referred to Egypt's successful hosting and presidency of the COP27 climate conference, stressing the importance of continuing joint work in order to build on the results of Sharm el-Sheikh and strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union in the field of energy and green transformation.
In the same context, Ms. Van der Straten, the Belgian Minister of Energy, emphasized the momentum in bilateral relations, especially in the field of energy, which was reflected in the launch of the Belgian President and Prime Minister's initiative of the Global Renewable Hydrogen Forum, during the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit, stressing her country's aspiration to continue strengthening Cooperation with Egypt in light of the great capabilities it possesses in terms of infrastructure and natural resources, in addition to the distinguished geographical position close to Europe and with access to the African continent, noting the importance of maximizing benefit from the available cooperation opportunities, especially in the field of green hydrogen.
Abdel-Aty reviewed the Egyptian capabilities in the field of energy in its various traditional, renewable and clean sources, especially the great potential that Egypt possesses for cooperation in the field of natural gas, especially liquefied gas (LNG), which qualifies Egypt as a regional center for the production, distribution and circulation of energy in the region. As well as prospects for future cooperation between the two sides in the fields of clean, new and renewable energy; On top of that is green hydrogen and electricity.
