The European Commission in Brussels said that the scale of a French support reaches 1.4 billion euros for the Air France airline is in line with the rules of government aid to the European Union. This procedure aims to compensate the airline for the damage that the company suffered during the period from March 17 and June 30, 2020 due to the Korona virus and travel restrictions to reduce the spread of the virus.

French support scale

According to a European statement, France reached the aid scale of 1.4 billion euros to compensate France's flight for the damage that suffered from March 17 and June 30, 2020 as a direct result of travel restrictions in France and other countries to reduce the spread of the virus.
Because of these travel restrictions, the airline incurred significant operational losses and witnessed a sharp decrease in traffic and profitability during this period.

This procedure (1) follows liquidity support 7 billion euros for France, which the Commission approved on May 4, 2020; And (2) scale of 4 billion euros to re -draw the airline that the Commission approved on April 6, 2021.
Aid will be granted in several slices and may take the forms of grants, support stocks or support liquidity.
The Commission evaluated the procedure under Article 107 (2) (B) TFEU, which enables the Commission to agree to government aid measures granted by member states to compensate specific companies or sectors for the damage caused by exceptional accidents directly, such as the Corona virus. UNHCR in particular found that the French procedure will well treat the damage related to the Corona virus outbreak. It was also found that the measure is proportional, because compensation does not exceed what is necessary.

On this basis, the Commission concluded that the scale of compensation for French damage is in line with the rules of government aid to the European Union.
The rules of government aid based on Article 107 (2) (B) enable TFEU from member states to compensate for specific companies or sectors (in the form of plans) for the damage suffered by exceptional incidents, such as that resulting from the Corona virus.
Moreover, on March 19, 2020, Al -Mufliabia has adopted a temporary framework for government aid to enable member states to use full flexibility expected under government aid bases to support the economy in the context of the Corona virus's pandemic.
