China plans to build a hydrogen pipeline with a length of more than 400 km to transport clean fuel in a more efficient way from the resource-rich West to energy-consuming regions in the East.
The president of Sinopec Ma Yongsheng, China's largest oil refiner and operator of the pipeline, said - in a statement today, Monday, according to the Chinese News Agency - that this project is designed to transport hydrogen from Ulanchap in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to Beijing, It will be the country's first cross-regional long-distance pipeline project, he said, adding that in the first phase, the pipeline will be able to transport about 100,000 tons of hydrogen each year and has the capacity to increase the capacity to 500,000 tons in the long term.
Ma said that after the pipeline is put into operation, the supply from Inner Mongolia will replace the existing hydrogen production from fossil fuels in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, playing a leading role in cross-regional hydrogen transportation and helping promote the country's energy upgrades.
