Today, UNHCR paid the third and final installment of €200 million in total financial assistance to Jordan. According to a European statement in Brussels, this batch concludes the third overall financial assistance process for Jordan, which amounted to a total of 700 million euros, of which 200 million euros came from a package approved in May 2020 to help Jordan mitigate the economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. .
Jordan received the first and second installments of €250 million each in November 2020 and July 2021.
According to the European Commission's statement, this financial support is an important sign of the European Union's partnership and solidarity with Jordan. It has helped the country meet its pressing financing needs, supports overall macroeconomic stability, and has been a key driver for implementing transformative reforms.
Today's payments come after the Commission found that Jordan had broadly met agreed policy conditions, which included important measures to improve public financial management, tax compliance, water sector infrastructure management, electricity sector annual reports, digital skills, and reforms to promote good governance, Including anti-corruption measures. At the same time, Jordan continues to meet the necessary conditions regarding respect for human rights, effective democratic mechanisms and a satisfactory track record under the IMF programme.
With today's payments, the EU has provided Jordan with €1.08 billion in MFA funds since 2013.
