A statement issued by NATO headquarters in Brussels said that from 12 to 13 June 2023, NATO Secretary General, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, will travel to Washington, DC.
He will meet the President of the United States of America, Mr. Joe Biden, the Secretary of State of the United States of America, Mr. Anthony Blinken and members of the Senate NATO Observer Group (SNOG).
According to Brussels sources, the file of developments in Ukraine will be at the forefront of the discussions, in addition to preparing for the next NATO summit, as well as discussing files related to issues related to internal matters in the alliance, including the expansion of the alliance, defense spending, and others.
This comes after the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg said that the consequences of the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka Dam in southern Ukraine are not only tragic for thousands of citizens, but also for the environment... calling on NATO countries to provide support to Ukraine quickly.
A statement issued by NATO stated that Stoltenberg's statements came during a meeting chaired by him (the NATO-Ukraine Committee) between the ambassadors of the Allied countries and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who participated virtually, to inform the allies of the damage caused by the dam bombing.
The Secretary-General stressed the importance of immediate, medium and long-term support for Ukraine, noting that the issue of destroying the Kakhovka Dam will be a major topic for next week's meetings of NATO defense ministers and the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group, in addition to the Vilnius summit scheduled for next July.
The allies expressed their strong solidarity with Ukraine and provided the necessary assistance, including water filters, pumps, generators and shelter equipment.
The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre, NATO's civil emergency response mechanism, shared a detailed list of Ukraine's most urgent needs with NATO allies and partners.
In return, the Russian Emergencies Ministry delivered about 75 tons of food and 30 tons of bottled water to those affected by the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station in the Kherson region.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry indicated that some local residents in the affected areas refuse to leave their homes, so rescuers are distributing water and food to them.
It is noteworthy that there are mutual accusations between Russia and Ukraine regarding the responsibility for the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on June 6, which caused the release of water uncontrollably, and 35 settlements and regions were affected by flood waters and the residents of neighboring settlements were evacuated, and it also caused severe damage to the environment and was washed away.
