The United Nations said that the celebration of this International Day of Family Remittances comes in appreciation of the more than 200 million migrant workers, women and men, who send money to improve the lives of their family members in their home countries. financial and cost reduction.

The Agricultural Development Fund, as the coordinating body for the celebration of this occasion, aims to ensure the support of this occasion and the dissemination of the work resulting from it within the framework of the ten-year #FamilyRemittances campaign for the period 2020-2030 aimed at supporting one billion people to achieve the goals of sustainable development in their livelihoods. The campaign is also intended—in that time frame and by highlighting annual themes aligned with the global development agenda—to strengthen the roles of stakeholders and guide them in focusing on new trends and priorities that make remittances more important.
The 2023-2024 campaign focuses on promoting digital technologies to improve financial inclusion in low-income and middle-income countries, and working towards achieving the 3 percent cost reduction target as set out in Goal 10 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Celebrate the International Day of Family Remittances—adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, on 16 June—to honor the more than 200 million migrant worker women and men who send money to improve the lives of 800 million family members back home, and contribute to a future of hope for their children. It should be noted that half of these flows go to rural areas, where poverty and hunger are concentrated, and where these remittances are of great importance.

This day also promotes the achievement of sustainable development goals and the advancement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Remittance flow trends
In 2022, international remittances to low- and middle-income countries will reach nearly US$626 billion. Migrant workers send monthly remittances of an average of 200 to 300 US dollars to meet the basic needs of their families, in addition to the benefits of those remittances to families and local communities alike, which helps many families achieve sustainable development goals in their ❞living ❝.

Furthermore, the United Nations calls on governments, the private sector, development organizations and civil society to promote digital and financial solutions for remittances that enhance social and economic resilience and inclusion.
