The European Commission said in Brussels that Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson will represent the Commission at a meeting of the Energy Council in Luxembourg on Monday, where EU energy ministers aim to reach a general approach to the EU electricity market design reform proposed by the Commission in March.
The proposed reform would promote renewable energy sources, better protect consumers and enhance industrial competitiveness, as part of the Industrial Green Deal plan. It is designed to make consumer and industrial energy bills less dependent on volatile fossil fuel prices, protect consumers from price hikes and make the EU's energy supply more sustainable.
According to the Commission's statement, drawing on lessons learned from last year's energy crisis and the successful implementation of the REPowerEU plan, the Commissioner will brief ministers on energy preparations for the coming winter. It will also inform them of the latest developments in the field of external energy relations.
