Brussels-Washington: Europe and the Arabs
The Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, continues today, Wednesday, in Washington, talks to discuss trans-Atlantic trade and support for Ukraine.
EVP Dombrovskis is holding a series of bilateral meetings, including with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, to discuss further support for Ukraine and Tunisia, progress on debt treatment and prospects for a quota review. The Executive Vice President also meets with Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Adviser. Catherine Tay, US Trade Representative; and Gina Raimondo, Minister of Commerce, to discuss strengthening transatlantic cooperation in trade and security, including in the context of Russia's brutal war against Ukraine, and the resilience of supply chains in the current geopolitical situation.
Specifically, discussions will focus on a new Global Sustainable Steel and Aluminum Arrangement (GSA) to address decarbonization and excess capacity in the steel and aluminum sectors; the EU-US Critical Minerals Agreements (CMA); and priority outcomes of the fifth meeting of the EU-US Technology Trade Council, where the focus will be on deepening cooperation on conformity assessment and trade facilitation of clean technology goods.
