BRUSSELS: European agri-food exports are back in decline amid shrinking trade

Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
After record high exports in March 2023, agri-food trade in the EU slowed down in April 2023.
Overall, EU exports remained at €17.8 billion in April 2023 due to higher export prices, while EU imports amounted to €13 billion resulting in an agro-food surplus of +4.8 billion €.
These are the main findings of the latest monthly report on agri-food trade published today by the European Commission.
In April 2023, a decrease in imports was observed across most products. A decrease in imports from Russia, Argentina, China, the Philippines and Moldova was observed.
On the other hand, imports of sugar and isoglucose increased significantly. The most valuable imported commodities continued to be oilseeds, protein crops, fruits, nuts, coffee, tea, cocoa and spices.
The top three destinations for EU agro-food exports between January and April 2023 remained the UK, the US and China.
The top three countries of origin for imports between January and April 2023 were Brazil, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
