The G20 summit concluded yesterday, which lasted for two days and included the participation of three Arab countries: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. According to multiple media reports, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the conclusion of the G20 summit in New Delhi by issuing a final statement that downplayed the importance of the deep divisions regarding the war in Ukraine and climate change.
Modi told the leaders participating in the G20 summit in New Delhi, “Against the backdrop of diligent work on the part of all teams, we have reached a consensus on the announcement of the G20 leaders’ summit. I declare the adoption of this declaration ».
The declaration called on “all countries to adhere to the principles of international law, including those related to territorial integrity and sovereignty, international humanitarian law, and the multilateral system that protects peace and stability.”
He added: “We welcome all relevant and constructive initiatives that support a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” adding that “the use or threat of using nuclear weapons is unacceptable.”
The leaders of the G20 countries, which include Russia and China, as well as some of Ukraine's staunchest supporters, have recently had difficulty agreeing on many matters, especially regarding the war that began 18 months ago.
For his part, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said at the conclusion of the group’s annual summit, which he described as “successful,” that “we cannot let geopolitical issues dominate the agenda of the G20 discussions... We have no interest in a divided G20. We need peace and cooperation instead.” of conflicts.
Modi handed over the rotating G20 presidency to Lula on Sunday, affirming his "support" and saying he was sure he would be able to "achieve our common goals."
The next summit is scheduled to be held in November 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
