Fayza Othmani, President of the "Algerian Women and Others" Association in Brussels, announced the organization of the first edition of the Algerian Cultural Festival in early October and over the course of three days in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. European Union
In statements to the "Europe and Arabs" website, Othmani said that the aim of the festival is to introduce Algerian culture by presenting several arts and performances, including literature, cinema, fine art, theatre, music, traditional clothing and various foods, in the presence of a number of Algerian artists residing in Belgium, France and other European countries and artists. Othmani added that the participants in the festival are required to transmit images of the rich Algerian culture and introduce others to it. Therefore, the matter will not only be limited to introducing the Algerian community and new generations to the culture of the motherland, but also introducing other communities and Europeans to the broad Algerian culture, especially since Algeria, the beloved country, is considered a continent that includes... Several countries, and this appears in the vast area of Algeria, and each city in it has a unique and distinct cultural character. The cultural character in Algiers is different from the north and the south, and so on. The country includes multiple cultures, including Arabic, Berber, Ottoman, and French, and this diversity is what prompted us to organize this festival, and this year will witness Organizing the first edition, which will then be held annually.”
She added that the door is open to everyone to participate in the upcoming editions, and they must communicate with the association or with it personally to prepare to participate in future editions.
Othmani then touched on the most prominent performances presented in the first edition and indicated that the festival this year chose two guests of honor, namely Egypt and Turkey, and artistic performances from the two countries will be presented due to the existence of clear ties between the Algerians, Egyptians, and Turks, especially both Egypt and Algeria, which were subject for a period of time to the Ottoman occupation and its effects. There are common foods and customs in both countries, and it is sufficient, for example, to point out that baklava is a well-known dessert in Egypt, Algeria, and Turkey in particular.
On the sidelines of the festival, a symposium will be held on decorations by the writer and artist Saadia Tabti, an Algerian residing in Paris. She has books on drawing and has participated in many decoration workshops in Algeria. In the field of music, there will be a performance by the “Zournajia” band, and during the course of their segment, the audience will notice the existence of links between the music that This band will perform with Turkish music in some songs. The festival will also witness a theatrical performance by the well-known Algerian actress Tunisia Ait Ali, who lives in France. There will also be popular singing and variations from all over Algeria, including metropolitan singing that is different from rai.
Writers and poets will also participate around the “Qaada” table, which revolves around Algerian customs and traditions. There will also be displays of Algerian traditional clothing and the organization of a small market for various items such as Algerian couscous, ghee, clothes, etc.
Othmani concluded by saying that she is waiting for the presence of an audience of people who love to get to know each other, integrate and participate with others, “and we, for our part, welcome audiences of all nationalities.”
