Yemen: The Secretary-General expresses grave concern about the sinking of the ship Rubymar and the potential environmental consequences

New York: Europe and the Arabs
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed grave concern about the reports of the shipwreck of the ship Rubimar off the coast of Yemen and the potential environmental, economic and humanitarian consequences for Yemen and the entire region.
The Secretary-General, through his spokesman Stephane Dujarric, reiterated the need to avoid actions that could lead to aggravation of the situation in the country.
Dujarric explained in the daily press conference that the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said that five experts from the United Nations Environment Program will travel to Yemen within the next 48 hours.
Experts - in close coordination with the Yemeni Ministry of Environment - will begin conducting an assessment of the consequences that the sinking of the Rubymar may have on the Red Sea. It is noteworthy that the sunken ship is filled with tons of fertilizer.
