Who is my "boss"?
Ibrahim Raissadati, known as Ibrahim Raisi, was born on December 4, 1960, in the city of Mashhad. Raisi assumed the presidency of Iran on August 4, 2021, becoming its eighth president.
Raisi began his work in the corridors of power in 1981 in the judiciary, where he assumed the position of Public Prosecutor in the city of Kharg, and shortly thereafter he assumed the position of Public Prosecutor in the city of Hamedan as well, combining the two positions. In 1985, he assumed the position of Deputy Public Prosecutor of the capital, Tehran.
Following the death of the first Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, in 1989, Raisi assumed the position of Prosecutor General of the capital, Tehran. During the period between 2004 and 2014, Raisi assumed the position of First Vice President of the Judiciary, and during that time he was elected in 2006 as a member of the “Leadership Council of Experts,” which is responsible for appointing or removing the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, and two years later he assumed the position of Vice President of the Council.
Raisi remained in the position of Prosecutor General until March 2016, when he took over the management of one of the most important religious institutions in Iran, the Imam Reza Foundation, which bears the name “Istan Quds Razavi,” and supervises the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad.
In 2017, Raisi surprised observers and ran for the presidency against Rouhani, who won a second term through a landslide victory in the first round. The loss to Rouhani did not eliminate Raisi, who was appointed by Supreme Leader Khamenei in 2019 to head the country’s judiciary.
Raisi rose through the ranks of the judiciary to become the Public Prosecutor in Tehran, all the way to the Public Prosecutor of Iran. He served at the top of the judiciary in Iran before assuming the position of president.
Since assuming the presidency of Iran, Raisi has shown priority for foreign policy and relations with neighboring countries. He has also set his sights on addressing the economic and social crisis that is mainly due to Western sanctions imposed on his country.
Raisi sought to improve Iran's economic situation by strengthening economic relations between Iran and the countries of the world, by establishing an economic system that protects Iran's economic growth from American political options, and enhances its trade exchange with Russia and China.
Raisi is married to Mrs. Jamila, a professor at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, and they have two girls.
