Washington: Agencies
The US Democratic National Committee announced that Kamala Harris has obtained the necessary number of votes from the party's delegates to officially nominate her for the presidential elections.
The chairman of the National Committee, Jamie Harrison, said in a statement: "I proudly confirm that Vice President Kamala Harris has received the majority of votes from all conference delegates and will become the Democratic Party's nominee after voting closes on Monday."
Harrison did not reveal the number of votes Kamala Harris received, but it is known that she must obtain at least 1,976 delegate votes.
Harris wrote on the social networking site "X" that she will officially become the Democratic Party's candidate for the US presidency next week.
It is noteworthy that the US presidential elections are scheduled to take place on November 5. The Republican Party nominated Donald Trump for the elections. Robert Kennedy Jr. also announced his candidacy as an independent.
