Euronews reported that climate change is devastating the European continent with floods, forest fires and severe heat waves, noting that new fires have broken out in several areas of Portugal and Madeira Island, an area currently more vulnerable to rural fires.
The network indicated, on Wednesday, that since August 14, nearly 500 specialists have been deployed to combat fires. In one week, nearly 7,000 hectares of land were burned, and 60 people were evacuated.
In Poland, severe storms have paralyzed some regions. In the capital (Warsaw), many streets were flooded after record rainfall due to thunderstorms.
Local authorities reported that the record for daily rainfall in Poland was broken after the storm, and although no injuries were recorded, the material losses for the residents of the Polish capital were severe.
Romania experienced extremely high temperatures and a nearly rainless summer; Which forced farmers to harvest a month earlier than in previous years. According to what was reported by the Youm7 website in Cairo from the Middle East News Agency, the severe heat waves that hit Europe also put major agricultural crops at risk, and Romanian farmers are still estimating the extent of their losses. According to agricultural economists, the losses incurred by corn fields alone are estimated at no less than 300 million euros.
