In light of the increasing crises around the world, the "Education Cannot Wait" Fund continues its efforts to provide education for children and youth affected by conflicts and disasters around the world. In its 2023 annual report, the Fund announced that its programs have reached 11 million children since its launch in 2017, including 5.6 million children last year alone. According to the United Nations News Bulletin, a copy of which we received this morning, the Fund said in a press release that this effort comes within the framework of the international community's commitment to achieving the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, to ensure the provision of quality and comprehensive education for all. It stated that it is facing a significant funding shortfall that hinders the achievement of this goal.
"Education Cannot Wait" is a global fund established by the United Nations to support education in emergencies and protracted crises.
The Fund stated in its statement: "Although education in emergencies is a global priority, funding for it decreased by 3% in 2023, the first decrease in a decade." He said this lack of resources threatens the future of millions of children around the world, including 224 million children affected by crises such as armed conflicts and natural disasters. To ensure its goals are met, the Fund seeks to raise an additional $600 million to provide education for 20 million children by 2026.
